The project aims to strengthen the livelihoods of women farmers the Upper-Egyptian Governorate of El Minya villages by setting up farmer field schools in central plots of land in their villages where they can experientially learn new and improved farming practices, receive literacy and numeracy classes, basic life skills training, health and nutrition awareness and medical preventative care. They also get agricultural support in terms of modern farming techniques, improved hybrid seeds, farming tools and fertilizers. On a macro-level, the project also seeks to expand smallholder access to markets for agricultural inputs and products while simultaneously working towards fostering an enabling environment that is more conductive to women’s economic empowerment. The project is, therefore, identifying the weak and incapable of identifying themselves as important elements in the society and transforming them to positively contributing women in improving the living standards and living conditions of their families and households.
